“The stone mystic rocks that emerge behind my village have haunted me and they always expand the concept of sculpture within me.”

Praxitelis Tzanoulinos is regarded as one of the most distinguished contemporary Greek sculptors, with a long-standing contribution to monumental sculpture, marble craftsmanship, and artistic restoration.

Born in 1955 in Falatados, Tinos – an island internationally known for its marble sculpting tradition – he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Pyrgos, Tinos, and later at the Athens School of Fine Arts under acclaimed sculptor Giannis Pappas. His artistic work is defined by a strong human-centered approach, exceptional technical precision, and deep respect for the traditions of Greek sculpture, while simultaneously incorporating a contemporary expressive character.

Throughout his career, he has created numerous public monuments, sculptures, and portrait busts displayed across Greece, earning recognition from the Academy of Athens for his contribution to the arts. Among his most notable works are the busts of Konstantinos Karamanlis, Eleftherios Venizelos, and writer Melpo Axioti, as well as the sculpture of poet C.P. Cavafy located on Dionysiou Areopagitou street in Athens. In parallel, he has been actively involved in the conservation and restoration of important historical monuments and sculptures, contributing significantly to the preservation of Greek cultural heritage.

A special place within his body of work is held by the Evzonas figurine, a sculpture that captures with remarkable detail and craftsmanship the symbolism, dignity, and historical identity of the iconic Greek guard. Through his artistic vision, Praxitelis Tzanoulinos continues to highlight the timeless strength of Greek art, history, and collective memory.
